It’s Time to Learn to Cook.

Where and how do we begin to tell you how cooking runs through our veins?!

The passion for culinary and hospitality runs deep within each of our chefs. Even the word chef is synonymous with the formless personal essence that exudes from each individual on the Culinary Team.

Haus Makr started in the kitchen. Like many of us at Haus Makr, before we picked up Crayons, Play-doh, and Lego, we picked up spatulas, burnt ourselves on gas ranges, and developed a first love typically before the age of seven!

Pulled from some of Toronto’s most remarkable restaurants, the Haus Makr Culinary team is comprised of well-trained chefs who have passions for ingredients and turning them into vibrant dishes that seduce each of the senses.

Our chefs want to pass along their skills to you, your family and friends. You’re going to be astounded at what you can learn from a Haus Makr Chef!

The Basics

Baking

The basics really are the basics and are the strongest foundation ensuring your future enjoyment in the world culinary. With The Basics you will learn how to cut properly, use some of your kitchen appliances in new ways, timing and service. It seems so simple because it is, when you’ve learned properly. Knowing how to do each accurately will take your meals from questionable to undeniably delicious.

If it’s not a PTA meeting, a bridge game or a boy’s martini night in, it’s something and baked goods are required! Baking is a skill that is going to help you sail right though every event where you need to be Martha Stewart. You’ll learn about temperatures, mixing, rising, yeast, pans, trays, butter- all the good stuff!

Poaching & Simmering

Boiling, Poaching, Simmering, Bain Marie - everything water, steam, and heat – direct and indirect. You’re going to learn little tricks in this class that can be applied to several types of food which will compliment many different meals. Whether it’s a main dish or a side, it’s going to be cooked well. Al dente – say it with me AL DEN-TE.

Sautéing

Broiling

Roasting

Grilling

Mmmmmm… Sauté! Sounds so exotic! And yet we do it almost every day. But how do we get it right? What is it called in English? Are there multiple styles? You’ve come to the right place with your questions. Sautéing class offers students the ability to go beyond learning the science of sauté and also learn to stir fry, shallow fry, as well as deep frying for those nights when you you want to kick those risotto cakes up a notch.

Who knew you could broil a steak! We did... and so did a lot of others. But! Now its your turn to know and master the indoor steak! You’ll learn how to marinade, season, and broil to perfection! Special occasions are right around the corner and having a scrumptious Surf n’ Turf recipe in your back pocket is always key for success. You’ll also learn additional tips and tricks about broiling, what works well and what doesn’t.

One of the easiest and yet most stressful cooking methods, roasting. It happens at almost every major family gathering and you’re sweating the whole way through… or drinking too much. Stop the insanity. Learn how to roast a chicken, a bacon wrapped and spinach stuffed pork tenderloin and root vegetables with a Chef from the Haus Makr Culinary Team. Learn the ins and outs of degrees of doneness with nothing more than the touching the meat with your finger - and maybe a thermometer.

Kiss the cook, Grill Master, King of The Grill. You’ve seen the aprons and they scare you every time. Well not this time buckaroo! Together we’re going to prep the food, so you understand the meat, the preparation process and temperatures required to achieve success. Then, we’re going to stare your grill in the face until you’re bff’s. You’re going to be walking away with some pretty sweet meat this season.

A Bit of How it Works…

We imagine your top of mind questions are… how many family or friends can take the class with me? Where is all of this fun hosted? And how much does it cost? All classes are hosted in the comfort of your own home or the home of a friend who’s kitchen you just love - to get dirty. (We’re a clean-as-you-go kind of Haus Makr - we’ll teach you that too!). The cost of each class in $90 plus the cost of food and $45 for each additional student. Friends are fun to cook with!

If you’re like us, you LOVE grocery shopping! So, in that case you may want to pick up the ingredients from your favorite grocer(we’ll bring the wine.) We’ll send you a shopping and required tools list at the time of booking your preferred class. Alternatively, we’ll happily do the shopping and a small shopping fee will apply.
